The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is a world-class art museum with an enormous campus and a huge, encyclopedic art collection. They’ve also got a lot of indoor and a lot of outdoor works for you to look at, so you can see and think about a wide range of work and settings.

LACMA is free on the 2nd Tue of the month, so we’ll use our Tue Feb 11 class to visit LACMA. Wk4 will be flipped, we’ll have Tu “off” for LACMA trips and meet in UT-108 on Th. (yes, the 2 interviews are still due this week)

If you can’t go that day, you can check out their website for other days / times / and price options:
Visiting LACMA

Explore the museum. Find work that engages you. Take pictures (photos allowed in most, but not all galleries at LACMA) Find any 2 artworks, preferably ones that you can include photos of, and COMPARE & CONTRAST them. How are they similar? How are they different? You can think about the FORM and the CONTENT of these works. With FORM you can talk about things like Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Rhythm, Cadence, Scale, and so on. With CONTENT you can think about the ideas the piece evokes, your own reactions to it, and you can try to “read” the “language” that this artist is “speaking” with their Formal Elements.
